Bayesian threshold analysis of litter size in sheep

چکیده
Background: Litter size at birth (LSB) is one of the most important economic traits in sheep and could be used genetic improvement schemes for meat production. LSB inherently a categorical trait should analysed with threshold models. Objective: Bayesian models were to analyze estimate parameters. Methods: Data was based on 7,901 records from 14,968 dams 682 sires collected 1986 2012 Makouie Sheep Breeding Station Iran. Means posterior distributions (MPDs) LSB's parameters estimated, best-fitted selected using deviance information criterion. Results: In repeated measurement analysis, estimated direct maternal heritabilities, permanent environmental effect (±SE), according model (model 5), 0.01 (0.010), 0.02 (0.014), (0.011), respectively. univariate best estimates heritabilities 0.12 (0.064) 0.08 (0.045), An increasing trend observed parity 2 (0.15 (0.082) 0.25 (0.083), respectively). bivariate 0.03 (0.027) 0.22 (0.041), The correlations among parities (0.054) (0.021), Conclusions: results showed considerable influence factors each sheep; also, statistically different (p<0.05) obtained another, indicating large influences parity.

Estimation of genetic parameters of litter size in Moghani sheep using threshold model via Bayesian approach
This study was conducted to estimate the genetic parameters of litter size (LS) in Moghani sheep using threshold model via Bayesian approach. The data originated from the Jafar-Abad Station of Ardabil province, Iran, and included 9698 lactation records of 4977 ewes with lambings from 1995 until 2010. The pedigree file consisted of data on animals born from 1987 to 2010. The significance of fixe...
متن کاملComparison of Introgression and Synthetic Breed Strategies for Litter Size Trait in Sheep using Computer Simulation
The objective of this study was to compare introgression and synthetic breed strategies for litter size trait improvement in sheep using computer simulation. For this purpose, a trait with heritability of 0.1, consisting of two chromosomes was simulated. On chromosome 1, a single QTL as the major gene was created that accounted for 40% of the total genetic variance. The effect of favorable and ...
متن کاملLitter-size-dependent intrauterine growth restriction in sheep.
Regulation of foetal development in sheep depends on interactions between the intrinsic capacity of the foetus for growth and the maternal environment. Lambs born in multi-foetus litters have relatively small placentae with fewer cotelydons, and lower birth weights. Litter-size-dependent intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR) is evident at mid gestation when metabolic needs of the conceptus are...
متن کاملGenetic analysis of litter size in Targhee, Suffolk, and Polypay sheep.
Data on litter size, weaning weights at 60, 90, and 120 d, postweaning gains from weaning to 120 or 365 d of age, fleece weight, and fiber diameter from Targhee, Suffolk, and Polypay flocks participating in the U.S. National Sheep Improvement Program were used to estimate genetic parameters for litter size and genetic relationships between early-life traits and future litter size. Records on 7,...
متن کاملGenetic analysis of litter size in mice
We performed quantitative trait locus (QTL) mapping analysis for litter size (total number of pups born and/or number of pups born alive) in 255 backcross mice derived from C57BL/6J and RR/Sgn inbred mice. We identified one significant QTL on chromosome 7 and 4 suggestive QTLs on chromosomes 3, 5, 10 and 13. In addition, two suggestive QTLs were identified on chromosomes 1 and 4 for the number ...
